Wolves head into district competition with loss to Silver Lake

The Maywood/Hayes Center football team fell to 1-2 on the season with a loss to Silver Lake Friday in Maywood. The Wolves trailed 0-14 with just over eight minutes remaining in the first quarter until Kody Schwenk turned a third and 10 on the MHC 35-yard line into a 45-yard touchdown run to get MHC on the board.
MHC’s Kody Schwenk tossed a pair of touchdowns and ran for another in the Wolves’ loss to Silver Lake.

‘Riders, Trojans, Wolves run at Chase County

IMPERIAL - Cambridge, Southwest, and Maywood-Hayes Center each competed against eight other schools at the large Chase County Meet last Thursday. The Lady Trojans led the girls, with Brenna Deterding, Rachel Harris, and JoLie Farr placing 10th, 19th, and 23rd.

LEXINGTON - The Southwest Girls’ Golf Team competed at Perkins County on Tuesday, September 5th. Two girls, Elizabeth Townsend and Abigail Sedlacek, placed in the top ten. Townsend placed 6th and Sedlacek tied for ninth, but took tenth in the tie-breaker.

BROKEN BOW - The Medicine Valley and Hi-Line cross country teams competed at Broken Bow last Saturday in one of the largest meets of the season. For the boys, Kael Garret of Medicine Valley led in 11th place.
Southern Valley’s Chase Hamilton and Arapahoe’s Lael Rathbun competed at the Lexington Invite.

GOTHENBURG - The Southern Valley/Alma softball team hit the road for a busy week last week and took down Lexington before falling to Cozad and Gothenburg. The Saints jumped on the Minutemaids early last Tuesday, scoring six in the first inning and held a 9-6 lead through two before adding nine runs over the final three innigs while holding Lexington off the scoreboard.

AXTELL - The Lady Trojan Golf team were back in action last Thursday at the meet in Axtell. Senior Emma Rasmussen placed 20th out of 43 golfers, and freshman Hailey Evans palced 42nd. Coach Calvert asserted that the Axtell course was tricky for a number of reasons.

OVERTON - After breezing by North Platte St. Pat’s and Dundy County-Stratton in a home triangular Tuesday, the Cambridge volleyball team battled the top-ranked team in Class D2 on the road Thursday before falling in four sets.
