Behind a big shooting night from Derek Trompke and a balanced supporting attack, the Cambridge boys basketball team rolled to a 52-29 victory over Southwest Friday. The Trojans got20 points from Trompke, including four threes, while Cole Fiene scored 13, Dahlton Wood added nine and Kyle Borland chipped in eight.

The Roughriders’ boys are still looking for the first win of the season after falling to Hitchcock County, 74-29 ,Tuesday, Jan. 5, to Cambridge, 52-29 on Friday, Jan. 8m and to Wauneta-Palisade, 42-30 on Saturday, Jan. 9.

The Roughriders’ girls basketball team earned two wins last week, 41-30 against Hitchcock Country on Tuesday, Jan. 5, and 39-33 against Cambridge on Friday. The girls then fell to Wauneta-Palisade, 52-48, on Saturday.

At the end of May 2020, the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) voted to sanction bowling as a high school varsity sport for the 2020-21 school year. A couple of weeks ago, Tornado Alley in Arapahoe hosted the first triangular between Arapahoe, Southern Valley and Ogallala.

The Hi-Line boys basketball team was relentless on offense Saturday as it rode a hot a 41-point first half to a 73-56 victory over Southwest Saturday, its first of the season. Hi-Line started out strong, outscoring Southwest 25-14 in the first quarter.

The Southwest Girls’ Roughriders Basketball team earned its third win of the season at Hi-Line, 48-43, Saturday. The Roughriders are now 3-6 on the season whiel the Bulls fell to 2-6.

BIG SPRINGS - The Cambridge girls basketball team finished runner-up at the South Platte Holiday Tournament last week. The Trojans ended a five-game losing streak with a 48-41 victory over conferencerival Dundy County-Stratton in the first round Wednesday afternoon.

The Southwest Roughriders dominated their homehosted invite on Saturday, Jan. 2. The team tallied 174 points, 54 more than the second-place North Platte team. Red Cloud/Blue Hill finished third with 106, followed by Southern Valley with 82 points. SEM came in fifth as a team with Cambridge earning 69 points in sixth. Brady, 51; Lincoln Lutheran, 44; Wauneta-Palisade, 31; McCook, 18; and Paxton, zero, also participated in the invite.
