Prior to the Maywood school board’s monthly meeting on July 14, two public hearings regarding policies on student fees (policy #5045) and parental involvement (policy #5018) were held. The board subsequently adopted policy revisions.

The Southwest Public Schools Board of Education met for their second meeting of the summer on July 14th. After excusing one absent board member, Brooke Brooks, and approving the agenda, the board recognized visitors during public comment. All old business items were approved as presented.

Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) was notified of mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile Virus (WNV) in the health district. The pool of mosquitoes carrying West Nile Virus was reported in Red Willow County. There have not been any mosquitoes that tested positive for WNV in the district since 2023, so SWNPHD recommends residents take precautions to avoid mosquito bites.

The Valley Voice conducted a Question and Answer with Cambridge Superintendent Jarod Albers on the proposed building project and Bond Election. The questions and answers are shared as follows: 1) The 1926 building or two-story portion has served the district for nearly 100 years.

CAMBRIDGE -The Frontier County Sheriff’s office was dispatched at 4:40 p.m. Sunday to a boating accident between Trails 6 & 8 at Medicine Creek Reservoir State Recreation Area (Harry Strunk Lake).

The Cambridge Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. All members were present for the meeting. After the Pledge of Allegiance and the Open Meetings announcement, the board approved amending the agenda. The board also approved the minutes of the June 9th, 2025, July 2nd, 2025, and July 8, 2025 Board of Education Meetings.

The Gosper County Fair kicks off next week in Elwood. This Saturday, the Phelps/ Gosper County 4-H Horse Show will take place at the Elwood Rodeo Grounds.
