Bird Flu found in wild geese

Body

Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) has received a report of wild geese in the health district that have tested positive for avian influenza, or bird flu.

There have been no human cases of bird flu in southwest Nebraska. This virus mainly affects birds and animals, and the risk to humans is low. It is still a good idea to take precautions around sick or dying wild birds.

Members of the Maywood/Wellfleet Gardeners Club met and decorated the kitchen at the Buffalo Bill Ranch in North Platte on December 8, 2025. Using only natural grasses and dried flowers you would find in the pasture, evergreen swags accented the windows and doorways. An old sled and skates stand against the wall as if the kids just came in from the frosty prairie. The tree is decorated with dried orange slices, strings of popcorn and cranberries, dried hydrangea blooms and bird nests nestled in the branches.

But, thanks to the help of a couple of grandsons, they were back up in short order Saturday evening.
