Turnout for the primary election held Tuesday was about a quarter of registered voters in the area. In local contested races, Kent Lehmann advanced with the Republican nomination in the Frontier County Commissioner’s race for the District 1 seat, defeating Doug Houser and Randy Sheffield.

The Curtis City Council granted permission to begin fundraising for a new pool. After multiple meetings, including two public input meetings, the Curtis pool committee requested that the city council approve moving forward with option 5, an estimated $3.9 million investment.

ARAPAHOE – After the passage of LB 243 that put a cap on property tax during the 2023 Legislative Session, school districts across the state are grappling with managing budgets. During the Arapahoe-Holbrook School Board meeting on Monday, May 13, finding solutions to the district’s financial situation was a recurring point of discussion.

The Elwood Public Schools Board of Education met on Monday, May 13th, 2024. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. Board member, Nic Niemeier, was absent from the meeting. There was no public comment.

Eight area schools held their graduation ceremonies over the last two weeks. Southern Valley held theirs on Saturday, May 4. Elwood, Eustis-Farnam, Maywood, Medicine Valley, Cambridge, Southwest, and Arapahoe-Holbrook held theirs on Saturday, May 11.

The Nebraska Library Commission recently awarded $37,495 in grants for Excellence in Youth service. Of the grants awarded to thirty-nine Nebraska libraries, several addressed the need for educational programs, Summer Reading programing, and materials like LEGO, STEAM, and other activities to encourage creativity in young people.
